Actually, the Old 97's are responsible for our band here in Atlanta getting together. My friend Lauren went on a trip to Nashville, TN with my fiance and I, and on the ride up she asked us if we knew the Old 97's. At the time, the only song I knew by them was "nineteen." By the time the trip to Nashville was over, I was obsessed with the guitar work in "Doreen." That song actually became our rock out song on the 3 hr drive up from Atlanta to Nashville, and we were listening to "Hit By a Train: Best of..." on the ride home when we decided to finally get serious about starting a band.
That was about a year ago, we're now playing shows all over Atlanta with a few regional shows on the books, and we've even been written up in Twang Nation. We're called Missy Gossip and the Secret Keepers, and one day we hope to meet the guys from the Old 97's to let them know that they inspired us to get up and do what we wanted to do. Can't wait to see them in Atlanta.
...I still listen to Doreen and think about that car ride.
