    Re: Best Old 97's moment

I took my 4 year old daughter to see Rhett.  We sat in the front row, and about 45 minutes into the show he noticed her. (It was during Four Leaf Clover and he laughed as he saw her... as he sang "I'm not the kind of guy you go for.")

When the song was over, he told the audience that he just noticed this cute little girl... and then he wondered how his language had been during the show.  The rest of the night he apologized to her each time he used the "F-bomb," as he referred to it.  "Sorry, Little Lady."

After playing an emotional Meteor Shower, he said he needed an antidote, and asked her for a request. She wanted Terrible Vision and he replied "Oh sure, make it hard."  But he played it for her and smiled at her at the end of it, and it was wonderful!

After the show, we went to meet him, and he was so nice to her.  Her name is Vivien and he told her "No way!" and that Victoria is about a girl named Vivian.

    Re: Best Old 97's moment

Well, the show this past weekend in New Orleans was one big "special moment." It's the second time I've seen Old 97's, but it's the first time I was able to get up close. My wife and I managed to stake out a spot about one-person-back from the stage, right below Ken.It's always an interesting thing seeing people you admire up close -- I'm not usually a very "starstruck" kind of person, but Old 97's are a notable exception.

A random thought that occurred to me during the show: if we could somehow make an automobile than ran on the sweat produced by Rhett Miller during any given show, we could solve our current fuel crisis. No lie.

    Re: Best Old 97's moment

well my family and I went up to Richmond for an Old 97s concert yesterday. My mom and I have been fans for a couple of years and I am in love with the music and the lyrics..EVERYTHING! So we are eating in the restaraunt next to Toads Place where they were performing and I got to hold the door for Rhett Miller! Then I ran up and told my mom and we ran back down to the bar where he was sitting and told him how much we admired the band and his song writing and my mom told him that she had promised me we would go see them for my 16th birthday if they came around here..thank god they did! So he posed for a picture and was just soooo nice and he signed my ticket! The concert was ofcourse amazing and when Rhett came out for an encore he announced that he met a nice young lady before the show and that it was her 16th birthday! "Where is Colleen?" he said! I think I about died. Then he asked me what song I would like to hear, and after some contemplation I requested Murder or a Heart Attack. He had his acoustic guitar and he played the song for me!! Then after a few more songs they said goodnight and as they were leaving the stage he looked right at me and mouthed Happy Birthday! Then he threw the pick and it somehow hit my cousin in the stomach so I got his pick too! Then as we were leaving some really nice guys wished me a happy birthday and gave me the playlist that they had gotten somehow! I am going to get all of it framed so I can have it forever!

Definitely one of the most unforgettable nights of my life!

Thanks Rhett and the Old 97s!!!

    Re: Best Old 97's moment

    Hi there all....

Well it may seem wierd for a wife to post a reply to a message her husband wrote days ago.....but give me a minute and you'll see why.  That night in Milwaukee that Robbie was talking about where we got to sit and chat with Rhett and Philip was so special.  I think it all started when a year ago The Old 97"s were in Colorado and Robbie couldn't see them because we were comitted to be somewhere else.  He was so bummed he couldn't see them play ... and I was like yeah.. yeah ... suck it up, it's just some band.  Well, I began to see over the next few months that he really liked this band (ok absolutely loves...all time favorite..can just somehow identify with the music, lyrics everything, you know what I'm talking about!) and he was going to make a point to see them next time.  Flash forward to June this summer...I had decided that I would really like to get to know the music and see the concert with him honestly because I just wanted to do the good wife thing not because I thought I need more cool bands and groups in my life. As you can probably already guess I fell in love with the music, too.  The concert was the first concert I had been to since we've been married and it was such a fun good time. The two of us sang, drank, ate, rocked out and drank some more minus any of our 4 kids. So now I'm totally into this new band and start listening to it all the time.  I find that I have a special liking to Murray's slow songs.

So then we show up in Milwaukee having already been stirred up about how they were going to be playing but we couldn't see them but maybe Robbie could steal away.  And then the magic started.  First I spot Murry early on in the hotel where we just happen to be staying.... tell Robbie he can't believe it... I must be wishful thinking.  Then he bumps into Rhett and Philip in the hallway.  And then hanging out with them at the small hotel loung (Scooter's I think the name is).  Sitting there I really made it a goal to be nonchalant.... like no big deal... just to keep the conversation and premise very casual and not so "fan admiring star".... but believe me inside I was so like " I cannot believe this!'.  I have to say that more than anything I was so very, very happy for my husband.  I just knew this was the best gift ever and somehow God had really blessed us that night.  We just sat and chatted and chatted... well I finally got up and danced but that's because that is what I normally would do and I just wanted to be normal with them.  Philip and Rhett you guys are awesome... thank you so much just being there.

Back home Robbie and I have been grinning fools ever since.  We talk about it a lot and it is like it is some special thing that we share.  We leads me to the real reason I am posting.  Today is our 15 year wedding anninversary and when I woke up this morning Robbie had left a gift for me.  Murry's new album I Don't Know Where I'm Going But I'm On My Way.  Now how romantic is that?  I love you Robbie, thanks for 15 years of great marriage.

I'd like to take credit for this but I can't.  When I saw the guys in Chicago in June I was talking to the guy standing next to me and we were talking about how much we love Murry's contributions to BIOG.  I said 'Murry's just so COOL' and guy next to me says 'if you look up "aw shucks" in the dictionary, there's a picture of Murry.'  DANG - wish I'd said it!
