Free to a good home: one of Philip's drumsticks from Tulsa show

After the band's awesome gig at the legendary Cain's ballroom in Tulsa (June 1, 2008), the roadie came by the front of the stage with a handful of drumsticks ... badly beaten drumsticks at that. A number of us in the front row reached out to catch one, and lo and behold, one landed in my grasp. Caught up in the moment, I thought it would make a killer keepsake from the show ... True. Very true.

But what do I really need with a drumstick? Am I being selfish here? I have my ticket stub. I have my photos. Wouldn't some other fan cherish it more? Could this thin shaft of blistered wood make someone else's day/week/month ... what about the fan who didn't get to see them from the front row? Or not at all?

So here's your chance. I will give the authentic Philip Peeples' drumstick to one deserving Old 97's fan.

But how will I choose, you ask?

Send me a PM with your heart-felt reason -- IN 100 WORDS OR LESS -- why you'd like (and deserve) to possess the drumstick. If you want to use emotional blackmail I am indeed a sucker for that, but I'd appreciate honesty. You don't have to lie and claim to be the biggest charity case in the world to get the stick. Just be sincere. I also might not go for the charity angle. Maybe you have a unique reason why this souvenir would be meaningful. (You can post your reason below, but I didn't want to turn it into a thread of one fan trying to out-do the other with "my is better than your reason" ...)

I guess all "contests" need a cut-off date -- so you have until July 1 to enter.

After that date, I will choose the "winner" and mail (on my dime) the item to him/her.

    No purchase necessary.

    Good luck!

It's past July 1st now!  Do we have a winner??
"Food is for eating, not toys for your child," reads a sign posted on a wall in typewritten text. A handwritten addition reads "Or 20% added."

Just got back in town after not having internet access for a while.

Got some great responses -- it will be hard to choose because I'm a sucker for emotional blackmail. Hope to make a decision in a day or so.

    We have a winner!

I received a number of great entries — all deserving of the drumstick ... but one particular respondent had a story that just struck a chord with me more than the others. I won’t divulge the person here (he/she can chime in if they want), but I have PM’d all parties involved to let them know the results.

Thanks for your submissions, everyone. Wish I could've made everyone a winner ...
