Yeah... if it wasn't for the Lancaster show last July, I wouldn't have got to see them that year. I love Lancaster, compared to some of the other areas in PA. It's alot easier than having to drive to pittsburgh, philly, or worse yet, DC.  It'd be awesome if they made it a regular stop.

It was a great venue for a 97's show, and a great performance, even though the power went down for the last encore it was great.  If you didn't already, check out the high-res pics from that show linked on Hitbyatrain.com.

I might actually be able to make that - and during a perfect time of year for a 97's show....

I'll be making the trip up from DC for this show in Lancaster.  I was able to catch the amazing DC show at the 930 Club, but my wife, who's a doctor, had to work that night and missed it.  We're planning to make a weekend of it and go up to Lancaster to catch the show.  Does anyone know who's opening (I can't find it anywhere)?  I was lucky enough to discover Sleepercar as an opening act in DC, and I hope they have good opening acts for the remainder of the tour.

Hope to see some of you at the Chameleon Club!

When I saw them in Lancaster last year, it was one of the best Old 97's shows I have ever been to.  I couldn't believe how out-of-control and insatiable the crowd was, and I'm from TX all right ;)  If I remember right, they played 3 encores - one of them after the house lights and music came on, but without the house PA.

I agree.  It's not like I've seen hundreds of Old 97's shows or anything, but I've seen them play outdoors and indoors.  I've seen them on a boat.  I've seen them in Texas, and even on New Year's Eve in Dallas where for a $10 BYOB charge you could bring your own bottle of liquor into the show.  And all those shows were great.  But that Lancaster concert last year was the best of them all.

Re: Lancaster, PA - Please come back to the Chameleon Club!!

You are correct on the three encores.  The sound board guy didn't make it back for the third so no vocals 'though you could hear Rhett screaming them from the front of the stage.  Most of the crowd had left, too.

The place has been re-done a bit I think and opened up more.  I saw Wayne the Train Hancock there in the spring, but he had two opening acts and I got so drunk waiting for him that I don't remember the show much.  Nothing to do during opening acts than drink, is there?

So the important question is:  WHEN DO THE OLD 97'S COME ON???

My first gig with the biys and sounds like I chose an awesome one.  I remember them saying they thought they might get a few Amish blokes to show up and being shocked that we all knew all of the worlds.  The only song I wanted and didn't get was Singular Girl.  Maybe this time.

I can not wait!!  I am thinking "The One" will tear the house down.  C U there

Re: Lancaster, PA - Please come back to the Chameleon Club!!

    Hi Michele,

This was a fantastic show that caught the band at a mid-tour peak. Philadelphia radio station WXPN (88.5 FM) sponsored the show, and also a free 7 PM local band showcase on the first floor stage. Doors opened for the main show on the upstairs stage at 8 PM, and opener Charlie Louvin played a well-received 45 minute set including "Cash on the Barrelhead," as well as some hits by Charlie and Ira Louvin dating back to the 1950's, and some murder ballads. WXPN broadcast the Old 97s portion of the show, and the band opened with The Fool at about 10 PM. A fine Barrier Reef came early in the set. Most of the new album was played, including an exceptional The One. Later in the set Rhett prefaced The Other Shoe by jokingly saying that he taught Waylon Jennings a few singing tricks while they were recording this track together ( Wish I could find a copy of that session!) Crash on the Barrelhead (after hearing the original, and inspiration for,)Rollerskate Skinny, Won't Be Home Again, Doreen, and Question were some other standouts. Since the show was being simulcast by radio, the band did what Rhett called a "fake encore" at about 11:45, and came back about 2 minutes later for a 2 or 3 song encore , ending with the traditional Timebomb, which ended at the stroke of midnight. Sorry I can't provide an accurate setlist, but due to a bad memory, passage of time since the show, and seeing the Philadelphia show at the Trocadero a few months back, it all blends together into one great show. Since the show was simulcast, there may be an audio copy out there, and it looked as if a professional video crew was recording the show, so maybe this will be available at a later time.
