    Hi From the 'Burgh

Hello there!  I'm a fan from Pittsburgh and because of that, the closest I've gotten to seeing the Old 97's live is from people who are kind enough to post videos of concerts (thanks to all who do!).  I first heard the band in an episode of Ed and have been a fan since (having Question play in the background of a proposal was just too sweet), so about 4 years.  After buying Satellite Rides, I went on an Old 97's spree and find their songs playing in my head out of nowhere.  Needless to say, love them.

Anyway, glad there's a community and I hope to get to know a bunch of Old 97's fans!

    Re: Hi From the 'Burgh

    Greetings,

I seem to remember them playing a gig at The Rex Theatre downtown Pittsburgh on the Drag It Up Tour.

I'm sure they'll extend the tour for BIOG and end up there as well.

I didn't attend the show myself, but my family lives outside of Pittsburgh and I was compteplating the drive at the time.

We are thinking about relocating there and will be there on Tuesday...any suggestions?

    Cool

Huh, I don't remember seeing Pittsburgh dates back then, though if it was after August I would have been annoyed because I was off in Syracuse being educated.  If they plan a Pittsburgh date now, though, I will be around to attend.

As for suggestions....an umbrella and rain shoes (we had a month of Spring in April and it's been cold and rainy since).  As for actual city things, I live in a suburb and while I work in the city, I pretty much stick to working, getting home, and Squirrel Hill, the Waterfront (stores and restaurants) and the non-bar side of the South Side (more stores and restaurants and less drunken college kids).  I'm of no help with the cool, obscure places in the city...or even the uncool places.

Hi Cheryl- Nice to meet you. Actually that was Rhett Miller's band. Not the Old 97's.

I just saw the Old 97's for the first time last night at the WYEP concert in Schenley plaza.  What an awsome performance!  It seems like they can play any type of music you could think of.  I bought a CD, and now am looking on the website, but it doesn't seem as if they would normally come to this area?

    Re: Hi From the 'Burgh

Not many bands (that I like enough to tolerate having to be crowded by tons of people while listening to said other people sing the band's music) seem to come to this area.  Apparently, Pittsburgh isn't a nice central city where people from other places will come to go to a concert.  I'm hoping they make another stop up here though.  That or I move to a place where they do play regularly before they stop performing.

    Also, Hi!

Indifferent [:|] Re: Hi From the 'Burgh

But the good thing is, you're in an area where Cleveland, DC, or Baltimore aren't that far out of the way and everyone who misses 'burgh seems to hit at least one of those, if not Philly. When I stay in central PA I always wind up going in one of those directions, but last year I lucked out when the 97's hit Lancaster. Speaking of Lancaster, I keep forgetting I have videos to put up on the youtube. Also, last year I got incredibly lucky and got to see Andrew Bird,Howe Gelb & Matt Pond in State College.  I loved not having to deal with driving in any pain in the arse city streets to go to a show for a change.  (if anyone's interested in the Lancaster vids, feel free to nag me to put them up..it was an awesome show all around)

Still, it's sad that it seems to be the big city to skip for most bands.

     and hi
