Old Guys at Old 97s at Dewey Beach...

Me and my 3 oldest friends (and by "oldest" I really do mean "oldest") are heading out from our suburban VA and MD homes for an overnighter to Dewey Beach to see the Old 97s at the venerable Bottle & Cork.

It's been almost 20 years since I've last been to Dewey, and I hear it really hasn't changed much, except that we'll be raising the average age for a couple days.

This will be my 5th or 6th Old 97's and/or Rhett show.  One of my favorites was in February 2001 at IOTA in Arlington VA.  Small club, front row - it was the show where I introduced a couple of my buddies to Old 97's.

And Rhett, Murry, Ken and Philip - If you're listening... I love your music, love your live shows, but if you might possibly humor me with 1 request.... I'd love to hear your take on a favorite song of yours.. that you didn't write.  That's right, throw us a cover version now and then.

    Looking forward to the show!

Re: Old Guys at Old 97s at Dewey Beach...

I was in the Bottle and Cork last August for a show by another artist.  The only advice I can give is to bring a jacket.  The venue is semi-open-air and that night there was a really strong wind from the ocean and it was freezing.  It had been in the 80s during the day.  At that point, Route 1 is only a few hundred yards from the beach, so you're almost right on the surf.

Dewey is still pretty wild these days, and is definitely the youngest of all the towns on that stretch.  Expect lots of frat-types at the B&C.

I was there last weekend, and the previous poster is correct, its def a frat-boy crowd. However, I am 35 and did not feel out of place, there were some older folks there.

I am curious as to what kind of crowd will show up. Just by looking at the club schedule it seems as its mostly cover bands that play there. Whatever, it will be good time. Please play Busted Afternoon, kthx.

Looks like they got your request to throw in some covers! And no kidding, that's one of the few setlists this tour were I've seen anything but "Over The Cliff" from the Covers Dept. "Southern Girls" is a real rareity. In fifteen years, I've heard them play it exactly once.

Thanks for that Link. My old husband and I (ha ha) we are in our late 30's made a trip out of it. Left the kids home and stayed at the Bay Resort (clean place, friendly people). It was so cool when the tour bus pulled in 5 doors down from where we were staying Thurs at noon. We ran into Murray on his way back from the meatball sub on Bellevue. Pretty cool thing. Everyone I talked to came to Dewey to see the band.

The guys did not disappoint. Great show minus the poor sound of the venue. The summer will be over soon and when "October rolls around" I be thinking back to Dewey as one of the highlights of the summer.

    Minnoj -

We stayed at the Bay Resort too. Very nice to be able to have a few beers at a show and then walk "home" for the night, after some Grotto's pizza of course.

I thought the sound was mostly OK - could have used more volume on Ken's guitar.  It was great to hear some of the new songs live - Early Morning really rocked the house!

The manager of the club actually hooked us up with posters from the show.
